We are looking for a Health & Safety Officer to join Team OB.

As a Health & Safety Officer at OB, you will be responsible for the maintenance and monitoring of health and safety processes and systems across our stores, warehouse and Support Office (SO). Working remotely, you will conduct store visits across the UK and Ireland as well as work closely with our Support Office and warehouse teams.

You will play a critical part in projects developing new health and safety systems, improving OB’s compliance with legal requirements, and providing industry best practice.

Working remotely as part of the Facilities and wider Operations team and collaborate with all stores, SO departments and Warehouse teams. You will play an integral role in providing technical health and safety advice and support to OB team members while helping ensure consistent safety standards across all locations. As well as visiting stores, you will also regularly visit the OB Support Office on a monthly basis for anchor days with the wider team.

Our Support Office is based in Tolworth, near Chessington. This role will be field based with the ideal candidate being based near Manchester to allow for easy travel to stores across the UK & Ireland. This role will offer hybrid working, consisting of 2 days per week working from home, and 3 days per week either office or field based in store.

More about the role …

An OB Health & Safety Officer will:

• Lead and deliver assigned Health & Safety projects (e.g. management system rollouts, training campaigns, policy & process improvements).

• Carry out independent store, office, and warehouse audits and risk assessments, ensuring follow-up actions are completed.

• Manage accident and incident investigations, conducting root cause analysis and producing recommendations.

• Take ownership of specific compliance areas (e.g. fire safety, asbestos management, DSE assessments, COSHH management, first aid provision etc).

• Support new store openings and refurbishments, embedding Health & Safety requirements at planning and delivery stages.

• Maintain specialist registers and ensure they remain up to date (e.g. Asbestos management, COSHH, statutory inspections, PUWER/LOLER, warehouse racking).

• Develop and deliver health and safety training sessions for OB team members, both in-person and for online resources.

• Create resources and guidance that encourage engagement with health & safety and promote a positive safety culture.

• Act as a first point of contact for day-to-day health and safety queries from across the business.

• Produce H&S performance reports, identifying trends and recommending proactive solutions.

• Present findings to managers and teams, ensuring key risks and improvements are communicated clearly.

• Support the wider H&S team with quarterly and annual H&S reporting requirements.

• Work with the Facilities and wider Operations teams to deliver joint health & safety processes.

• Liaise with external partners and regulatory bodies as required, escalating more complex issues to the H&S Advisor and Facilities Manager.

• Lead Health & Safety committee meetings

What we look for:

• Intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft Office software, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook

• NEBOSH National Occupational Health & Safety Certificate

• Desire to work within a health and safety role and the willingness to learn and attend training courses

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to absorb new information, including H&S legislation & industry guidance

• Solution orientated, always looking to solve problems efficiently

• Flexibility and adaptability

• Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, when required

• Ability to work from home and remotely.
